DM Slide Series: Quick Q&A with a world-ranked javelin thrower

Here’s a name you should know: Dana Baker.

She just won a medal in javelin at the IAAF World U20 Championships, which is also known as the World Junior Championships. This would be an impressive feat on its own, but it’s especially notable because it makes her the very first person from the United States, male or female, to bring home a medal from the world competition.

The meet took place in Finland mid-July.  Baker previously won the title at the Kansas state track meet 3 years in a row and also won the American JavFest.

She secured the bronze at the IAAF World U20 Championships with a throw of 55.04 meters, which is about the length of 1/2 a football field + 10 yards.
